Some of my favorite watercolor moments happen when I stop trying to control every edge and simply let the paint behave like watercolor. This little marsh painting was one of those moments.The soft pinks, peaches and purples of the sky spill into the water below, while the darker marsh grass gives the painting just enough structure. I wanted it to capture that fleeting stretch of evening when everything takes on a color it won't have again five minutes later.
Living in South Carolina, marshes and waterways are such a familiar part of the landscape. This piece is my softer, slightly dreamier interpretation of that scenery - and of the quiet that seems to settle over the water at the end of the day.
