About the Piece:
As I’ve grown my work, I’ve become increasingly interested in painting the places that make our corner of South Carolina feel like ours. Not necessarily the most famous landmarks in the world, but the ones people recognize immediately because they're tied to everyday life, memories and home.The Lake Murray Dam was one of those places I wanted to capture.
I chose to paint it at sunset, when the industrial structure of the dam becomes surprisingly beautiful against warm reflections on the water. It was also a challenge I gave myself as an artist - balancing all of those architectural details with the softness and movement of watercolor.
This piece is a part of a growing collection centered around familiar local places, painted through my own eyes and preserved in watercolor.
